Last week, the big topic of conversation in the news - aside from matters in Sydney and Peshawar - was the remarkable crash of the rouble.
The Russian currency has plummeted, sparking a financial crisis in the country; as well as among Russias top football clubs, who have spent heavily in recent years.
Russian football expert Artur Petrosyan predicted that many of the top players in the Russian Premier League will have to leave by July 2015, meaning cut-price deals are in the offing as clubs desperately seek to bring in money ahead of what will be a tough time for Russia.
If that is the case, then it could well be good news for Manchester United though, who would surely have little hesitation acting as the vulture swooping in to collect Russia's prized talent - and, naturally, the attention turns to defence.
Louis van Gaal's men have tightened up since the stunning 5-3 defeat to Leicester City, but it's clear that United still lack a dominant centre back having been bullied by Christian Benteke during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
A long-term target for United has been Ezequiel Garay, who only left Benfica for Zenit St. Petersburg this summer. However, that hasn't stopped speculation that he will finally move to Old Trafford after 18 months of rumours, with the Argentine seen as the perfect player to solve United's defensive woes.
Garay, 28, is an international team mate of Marcos Rojo and Angel Di Maria, two players who moved to United in the summer, and he possesses many of the attributes van Gaal is looking for.
The former Real Madrid man is big, strong and good in the air, and is far more no-nonsense than the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans.
With Zenit seemingly needing cash in light of the rouble collapse, this could be United's best chance to land a top class centre back in the middle of the season - and could be available for around the £12m that Zenit paid just months ago, which is a deal United surely can't refuse.
